Hello Maine-sters! I am applying for a job and haven't even scored an interview yet but have a question about living in Presque Isle. Rental housing seems to be not really available there. If I lived in Washburn or Fort Kent, would driving during the winter be a problem for a guy with a Mitsubishi Lancer GTS that doesn't have a lot of clearance? Would I need to trade in for a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport?

Why is there no rental housing available in Presque Isle? And do they plow the main highway, Highway 1 pretty quickly and well in the winter snowy time? Also - how many months out of the year are snowy in Presque Isle?

Fort Kent is not within commuting distance of Presque Isle (56 miles) unless you really love to drive a LOT on two-lane roads. My default vehicle for The County would be a four-wheel-drive something, although a lot of folks get along just fine with 2WD sedans. Roads are kept plowed.

As for rentals in PI, where have you looked and who have you asked? Not sure why there would be a shortage there. Have you tried local real estate agencies or the chamber of commerce?

BTW, you should check to see where the closest Mitsubishi dealership is if you plan to stick with that brand.

Good idea on checking the Mitsubishi dealership availability. I have looked at the local paper and in Craiglist and in the real estate webpages.

LOL. I bet it's somewhere south of the northernmost Volvo dealership. A whole lot of Dodge vehicles and Mitsubishi vehicles share the same parts though.

yes, they plow,,,, they even plow the fields so the snow doesnt drift in the roads

washburn isnt that far- mars hill, caribou, all towns to look-

presque isle is nicknamed the star city - highest population in aroostook county
in aroostook county

you can call the real estate offices around presque isle and caribou, see if they have any houses to rent, or could give you referrels..

if you have good tires and go slow when storming , your car should be ok..make sure you have hats gloves, heavy jacket in case you break down... could be a matter of survival

years ago i had this loaner car- dodge shadow,, 1994 and was caught in a blizzard between presque isle and caribou...was blown all over the road,,, but just go slow,,,and eventually i made it thru

They plow the main roads quickly and well. Most cars are okay in the winter, especially if you have studded snow tires.
But there is a Mitsubishi dealership in Caribou (Griffeth's).
PM me if you'd like me to check the local papers for houses to rent.
