Currently, Here in Aurora, ME, 60F, Dewpoint 51F, NNW 4MPH..Cloudy..

Walked the Meadows today and enjoyed it's fragrance and brilliant change of colors...visited the Beaver Pond up the little creek that runs through our property and divides the Meadows from the Woods (and noticed some trout fry jumping out of what once was the Lower Pond, before last year's deluge ((September 30, 2015))! Upon closer inspection, we detected a larger Beavers' Lodge and fortified Dam..We then, traversed the Blueberry Barrens whose change of color also reflected the change of season...Hand-in-hand we walked....Admiring the beauty around and beneath our feet only to return home to feast upon a Pork Roast baked in fruit cocktail, onions, coconut oil, brown sugar, cinnamon and new potatoes....
Let the Autumn Feasting begin!!!

My parents told me about the Great New England Hurricane of 1938. Many old earthen dams burst making the flood even worse than it would have been. They had no warning. There was one brief radio mention of a very violent storm on Long Island and then it went right up the Connecticut River Valley, swinging east across Maine. Many huge old trees came down and many dams burst.

Today we have radar and satellite images, but forecasting is still not an exact science. Consider this a warning to get your stuff on high ground and have a plan to get out if you are on low ground. Hurricane Matthew could affect Maine and cause flooding.

Default Looks like a hard freeze

Here 5 miles outside of Bar Harbor, it was 42 at 8:00, but by 9:30, it was 35 degrees. Now at 10:00 PM its dropped to freezing. We first covered the house plants that we have outside for the summer. But now we've brought them in since its looking like a hard freeze not just a frost. One of them is a ficus plant that we've had since a year after we got married so its 42 years old and is very very important to us.

Its always colder on our section of the island than anywhere else. But I guess our house plant are now in for the winter about 10 days before we normally have to do that.

And of course the wood stove is running.

We're 25 feet above sea level. We've had as much as 6 inches of rain in a 24 hour period and it just drained into the creek and headed out to the ocean.

I'm more concerned about an extended power outage due to trees going down, and then not being able to post here on city data, and watch HGTV. Gotta keep your priorities right.

Preparing to go to a friends' home in our area to celebrate the beginning of Autumn with a potluck, drinks and good conversation...To top it off a bonfire! It may rain this evening, but who cares!
Good times - sharing our life with friends and embracing the changing Seasons!
That sounds wonderful.
