"That is an example of a misleading statistic. "

Bangor had the coldest first six months ever this year. That is reflected in fuel consumption no matter what fuel you use.

Some people will say, "but we had some beautiful days last spring". Hang onto that thought. We will have some beautiful spring days in 2016 also, but we all know what is coming in between.

Hope you guys enjoyed the 60s.. All downhill from here now. Maybe 60s next week again but first .........

Coldest air of the season.. Want to see where it's coming from? Click here.. North Pole.

With cold comes..... We'll see.

NWS Gray Maine

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME
958 AM EDT WED OCT 14 2015

SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...THE SECOND WAVE WILL MOVE INTO THE
REGION BUT RIGHT NOW FORECAST CONFIDENCE IS QUITE LOW ON EXACTLY
HOW STRONG THE SHORT WAVE DIVING OUT OF CANADA WILL BE. THE GFS
CLOSES 700MB LOW OVER CENTRAL MAINE WITH STRONG FRONTOGENESIS AND
DIVERGENCE JUST TO THE NW OF THE LOW. THE COLUMN IS CERTAINLY COLD
ENOUGH FOR THIS TO BE HEAVY SNOW ACROSS FAR NORTHERN FORECAST
ZONES. HOWEVER...WITH THIS GFS RUN THE BEST FORCING IS IN FAR NW
MAINE. THE 00Z EURO ISN`T SHOWING QUITE THE AMOUNT OF FORCING
THAT THE GFS HAS...AS IT DEVELOPS THE LOW A BIT LATER AND FURTHER
EAST...BUT IT STILL HAS A DECENT BANDING SIGNATURE OVER NORTHERN
MAINE. BASICALLY WE WILL JUST HAVE TO MONITOR THIS CLOSELY OVER
THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS. FOR NOW I`M NOT CONFIDENT GOING MORE THAN
CHANCE POP FOR SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY EXCEPT FOR MAYBE NORTHERN
CENTRAL SOMERSET.

IF THE SYSTEM CAN GET ITS ACT TOGETHER A BIT FURTHER SOUTH THEN THEN WE COULD BE LOOKING AT OUR FIRST WINTER HEADLINES OF THE SEASON.

STRONG COLD AIR ADVECTION WILL BEGIN EARLY SATURDAY NIGHT. UPSLOPE NORTHWEST FLOW WILL LIKELY KICK OFF SOME SNOW SHOWERS ACROSS THE NORTH AND MOUNTAINS LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY. TEMPERATURES WILL PLUMMET BY SUNDAY MORNING WITH LOWS LIKELY IN THE LOW 20S TO EVEN UPPER TEENS IN THE NORTH COUNTRY AND UPPER 20S TO LOW 30S IN SOUTHERN AREAS. DURING THE DAY SUNDAY WILL BE VERY BRISK WITH 15 - 25 MPH WIND GUSTS OUT OF THE NW AND HIGHS ONLY IN THE 30S IN THE NORTH AND MID TO UPPER 40S IN THE SOUTH.

Yeah, I wonder what other ski resorts will test or run their snow making machines. Temps & dewpoints will support it but will they waste their time and money on it since it's going to warm up next week?

Sunday River wants to open a trail Monday.

Last time Caribou Maine got 3"+ of snow in October was in 2009. (10-22)

Can they do it again this weekend? If the system develops nicely with moisture, I don't see why not

Flurries & Light snow flying around under those blues moving ESE thanks to the Lakes helping... Heavier snows in Maine right now in those spots thanks to a low pressure nearby..

NWS Caribou: mentions some decent snowfall rates in some areas and thunderstorms around Portland. Wow

If...the setup is right with a NW flow
If..the snowpack in Quebec stays through October & November
If..there is blocking near Greenland
If.. a ridge pops in the Western U.S

Then Maine has the potential to be well colder then normal. A lot of ifs but theres so much involved with weather that the snowpack in Quebec matters a lot. A Polar flowing over ice and snow will have colder air flowing into New England.

With that said... and more coming for them next 10 days!

Don't try to confuse me with facts. The ice packs in the north are gone, the polar bears are all dead, and pretty soon, if enough people breath out enough times, there will be eternal summer.
