Awesome working class town in '01 when we walked it from Saco while living there attending UNE. I think after growing up in Philly it is Utopia. I went to undergrad at Temple U in Phila & let me tell u, after than UNE looks like paradise. No subway, buses, burned out bldgs, etc. get the idea?

Overall, Maine is a safe place. Who is committing the crimes? criminals. Like others have said, pay attention to your surroundings, don't be stupid, know your neighbors, lock your doors, get a dog or two or three ... A wise person once said locks on doors are for honest people. If you are the person who ends up being the victim, the statistics don't really matter. (a moot point) Kinda like air travel being safer than highway/car travel. If you are in the plane that goes down ....
