Whoopie Pies, chocolate whoopie pies, Maine Whoopie Pies, desserts, chocolate, wicked whoopies, Valentines day, Maine

Someone posted a link to a company that mails whoopie pies, but I can't find the thread. If anyone has another recommendation, I'll gladly take it! Thanks.

I'm a former Mainer, living in California, trying to plan some yummy New England foods for my Super Bowl party that the Patriots will certainly win.

Now if I could only find a way to get Di Pietro's Italians overnighted to me.

Labadie's Bakery makes a good whoopie pie, I wouldn't go as far as saying they are the BEST in Maine though. I personally like the ones the Washburn Food Mart puts out fresh almost every day. Labadie's Bakery is the most wide spread I think. Have you called Di Pietro's? They just may have a way to send them, or might even let you in on a little secret they use in their Italians for a displaced Mainer.

this one has been written up a lot, though I've never tried them - will leave it to others to recommend. I believe they are in Gardiner:

Toria, those look great! The ones I am going to try next time downstate are the "whoop-de-dos". I mean OMG, mini-chocolate whoopie Pies dipped in chocolate. I see a couple extra pounds in my future.

Whoopie Pies from Maine Goodies (http://www.mainegoodies.com/snack/whoopiepies.shtml - broken link)

I have used maine goodies for Moxie and for various dry beans, condiments and for a gift of a beautiful baby blanket woven in maine.

I think their prices are "pricey" with mailing but I have not been dissappointed.

Thanks for that recs. Maybe I'll order a dozen from anyone who will ship to California, and keep the best ones for myself and give the rest to the non-New Englanders who wouldn't know the difference.

I think the key to Di Pietro's is their pickles. And olives. And rolls. They are, by far, the very best italians in Maine.

It's no wonder I gain 5 pounds every summer when I go home. I eat my way through the entire state, from Scarborough to Machias and back.

I *love* these whoopie pies - the chocolate is to die for, but maybe that's a little too close to the truth. They're super-sweet. I'd like to find some just as chocolatey but less sugary. I first tried 'em at the Topsham Fair harness races with a hot cup of Green Mtn coffee - mmmmmmmmmm! I think the coffee cuts the sugar taste very well...

P.S. at the price of these goodies + shipping, maybe we should be posting recipes for whoopies instead!?

The Wicked Whoopie pies are really good. I myself, have only had the ones from there, but I really liked them.
I have ordered them online twice and had them shipped to me here in florida.
Then when I was in Maine, we went to the actual shop. And I had the little one coated in chocolate. YUMMY!!! But then again, I am a major chocoholic..
