good thing they still make it, as the #2 item in that toolbox, bailing wire, has become an endangered species... and the stand in (old coat hanger) is decidedly second rate...

Good old duct tape.

I keep a roll in the truck, a roll in my tool bucket, and several rolls here at the palace.

We could probably start a new and interesting thread about all the wonderful things Mainers can do with duct tape.

I quit using WD-40. Mardens had some stuff in a year or two ago that was a spray like WD-40 but smelled and looked just like Marvel Mystery oil, I bought a can and tried it. Went back and bought 12 more cans that afternoon. At 99 cents for a 15oz can it works better and smells better (IMHO) that WD-40, plus it came from Mardens, what could be more Maine?

The other thing I won't be without ( in the box of tricks with the duct tape, bailing wire and WD40 ) is GoJo (or Fast Orange... or the like...) the mechanics citrus hand cleaner with pumice. I found that stuff would get tree sap out of my girls long hair, as well as off their jeans and clean grease and oil out of their dad's jeans about as well as anything. I have some under the kitchen sink, with the laundry supplies and a small container rides in the truck.

I also use it to clean my brushes when I paint my hex signs and lots of other stuff which do not come to mind at present.
