You like Portland and Boothbay, keep in mind that both are tourist economies, and therefore may have higher COLs then the rural parts of the state.

I imagine that his commuting will be much easier if you choose a location near I-95. [driving low-speeds an hour before you get to I-95 would certainly add to his commute].

I hope your move goes smoothly.

If your hubby flies to those destinations, I would certainly look for something within an hour of Portland, second choice would be to live within an hour of Bangor. Good luck on your move!

Seems like most posters who think they want to move here always seem to want to land in Portland or south........now that's a good thing.....a VERY good thing. Too crowded here in the woods already.

I am not sure if the other 99% of Maine's towns care whether the City of Portland's taxes are paid.

I was referring to income tax. Portland is where the jobs are, both in terms of quantity and quality.

We know, we know: Portland is what it's all about. It has everything going for it and has everything to recommend itself.
Still, the rest of us have to live somewhere.

In my travels, most big cities tend to have: higher paying jobs, more jobs, more municipal services, higher COL, and higher taxes.

Generally the same can be said of any state that has both rural and urban regions.
