MDI=Mount Desert Island, Home of Acadia National Park. The island used to require a ferry to get to it, but in 1920 they put in a couple of bridges. More than 3/4 of the Island is the Park, about 11,000 of us live on the island in the winter. In the last week of July and the 1st of August, about 45,000 people live here.

One bridge goes TO Thompson Island from Trenton, the other goes TO MDI from Thompson Island.

Oh. Well, duh. I just consider that one bridge, but technically you're right.

I tell you, some of the most beautiful pictures I have seen of Maine are right there on MDI. Yeah, I had to look it up when I first started lurking about here. I'd LOVE to visit, but not so sure living on an island is for me. I "inherited" a touch of disaster preparedness from my mother, and can't help but think about all the what ifs. There are a lot of what ifs I'm prepared for, but being stuck on an island isn't one of them.

I think somebody here even tried to tempt me with an old fashioned tea house for sale there!
Turns out it was already bought and going strong...and on my list of places to visit if I get up that way.
Oh, slight edit: It's actually on Swan's Island.

I expect to visit on a motorcycle ride to the Bay of Funday when it gets a lot warmer.
