The first time I ever saw one I thought it had to do with spaying and neutering pets. Nope. They are talking about people. They are part of the Human Extinction Movement. When Volvo owners venture north of the line, they usually do so in packs. I expect we'll see a pack of Volvos today in Greenville. I'll report on that when I get back. I'm tesifying over there today in behalf of Northern Maine.
I think NMLM's location of the line must be currently correct. The lady across the street from us in Eastport drives a Volvo to work and back, so Eastport must be below the "line."

I am however familiar with the "Deliverance" line. You know.....the line that if you cross it you might end up in the same fate as those character's in the movie deliverance.

Since hearing this I have been carefurll not to venture into northern maine, and I only canoe the saco. So far ive been Ok! and thankfully I heard that that line never moves south. "he's got a pertie Mouth"
I think I hear a banjo off in the distance.

We live well below the line here in Freeport, though I'd really like to live north of the line....someday.

Default Prius, Priae, etc.

Slightly OT here--my apologies--but the earlier Prius comments reminded me of a true story.

I once had the acquaintance of a couple from away who'd moved to Maine to grow orchids on an inheritance. Seriously. All Mr. could do (and does to this day) was blab about how much better everything in his state was...from the volunteer fire departments to the road crews to the medical care to the state government. Anyway, Mr. is a well-known blowhard, so when he and The Wife (his term) bought two matching white Priuses a few years ago, the entire area heard about it, willingly or no. Mr. and Mrs. couldn't stop bragging about the mileage the two little insectoid cars got. The rest of us couldn't help but see the irony in the fact that they were running furnaces non-stop in six or seven very large poly greenhouses in Maine in the dead of winter, all keeping the orchid obsession comfy at 70 degrees or above in sub-zero January weather. Wonder how many MPG those greenhouses got? These people could have invented the Volvo Line.

Nothing more refreshing than a story of transplants and their quirks.
