Great site. Thanks. We had grown lots of veggies in the past...but Maine growing was over 20 years ago. The hubby has gone a bit nuts. I have 96 packages of seeds sitting here to go to Maine with us. We have 4.5 acres that COULD be planted and if he has his way I guess it will be.
Guess I better think about a farm stand.

Personally, I think you should have at least 100 packs of seeds. Just in case. I have a hint for you, wives are supposed to drive their husbands nuts. Oh, and uh, husbands are supposed to drive their wives nuts. It's a sure sign of a healthy marriage.

Not to worry, making organic fertilizer is one of the things I can do - am currently doing in WV - and will expand considerably once I am in Maine.

I share.

Oh?

Our chicken yard is frozen solid right now, but come spring I should be able to pitchfork it apart once again.

Our goats are building up a pretty thick layer out in their grove. I think that we should be in good stock with fertilizer this year.

Last year we went to a local cheesemaker's home and hauled a few truck loads of his excess stuff.

There is a lot around here available for free.

And a couple days ago one local was offering to hook me up for free lime too.

Food's going to get more expensive as petroleum prices rise. Petroleum is used to fertilize conventional crops and then again to truck it an average of 1500 miles from field to plate. I hope the people in this country are paying attention enough to look for sensible options.

Well then, we sure do have a wicked healthy marriage. I still have 27 packages of seeds to be delivered, so I guess we will have more than the 100 we should have But, there are only two of us in this little family and I don't know if I will beable to buy enough canning jars to keep up.
