No, my town doesn't *have* a Police Department.

Neither does mine.

Just not nearly enough crime in Maine to justify having a PD in of Maine, and so the majority of townships dont.

This isn't my town - but the story warms the cockles of my heart. Imagine having land in your family since 1730!

'Way less' is more to Warren couple
The Robinsons sell a conservation easement on their property to a trust, preventing development.

'Way less' is more to Warren couple | Portland Press Herald (http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=164395&ac=PHnws - broken link)

Hope it's not too far off topic as it's somebody's town in Maine!

If anybody gets really upset about something they call the sheriff and after a while they come out and take a report. Otherwise we solve the problem ourselves. Troublemakers identify themselves rather quickly and they usually end up moving out of town for their own convenience because it becomes very inconvenient to stay.

Down south they have an expression to describe this situation. It is called "being churched". If you wrong a church member, and everybody in a church makes you unwelcome you might just be better off to find someplace else to live.

What's a police force? Don't have one here in WV, either. I once called 9-1-1 and was told to wait until morning and go to the next town and file a complaint in the magistrate's office. And this was regarding someone standing in my driveway, threatening me at my residence as I just got back from walking my dog. The stoned addict had me confused for someone else.

Not a problem, I just grabbed my shotgun, took it back outside and cocked it. Addict left. Who was the addict gonna call to report me?
