Which would you do?

Living in Bar harbor, I am so tired of continuous dropouts for Fairpoint. Repair says they can't help unless its DOWN. Its down it up its down its up its down its up its..... They say that if its not down when repair gets there it will be a $75 service call.

But TWC would cost more, and hardly anyone has good things to say about them.

I don't want to be bundled. I only want internet.

Ideas?

Fairpoint cannot compete with Time Warner in the residential Internet space. I'm no Time Warner fan by any means, but it isn't even close.

Same reason we did not go with Fair Point when we moved as its satelite
Having had direct tv before- we wanted a connection verses any dish.
Well worth it- and even with all the storms we had last winter, not once did we loose any of it ( tv,internet and phone ).

Everybody I've talked to locally(Bar harbor Barter and Swap) have agreed that if you don't mind paying somewhere between $20 and $50, you won't have anymore drop outs ever with TWC. Also, you can get screaming internet if you don't mind paying for it. Now matter how much I was willing to pay Fairpoint, I can never get better than 1 down, and .5 up.

Most everybody also says that if you stick to just internet with TW, they are not too hard to deal with. its when you start adding TV and Phone that they can get difficult to interact with. Maybe each of the items is a separate fiefdom in TWC, and they don't play well in the sandbox with each other.

My neighbors have internet through them. Phone- they need a land line so fair point.

Personally- I think they are great. Our neighbors run a business from their house- thats one line, and the grocery store near by- another line received for TWC. They put us on a 3rd connection so internet is super fast.

Do you have the right kind of exposure for satellite internet? It's got it's own set of issues (i.e. latency) but it's an alternative.

Must be nice to have so many options

We use the landline from OTT. It is far too noisy for voice comms, we had to shift to cellphone for voice, but it gets us online okay.

I would suggest that you go to satellite.

Satellite is the most expensive of all of them, and one of the slowest. Near as I can tell, its for people who live outside of the power lines.

It may have lag-times, but down-load and up-load speeds are faster than my 'DSL'.

A lot of Maine land is outside of the practical reach of power lines.

I've got friends that have twc. They are happy with it. We use fairpoint, no other option for us.
