Mine are too. Live right in the middle of central Maine deer country. Most of my neighbors hunt and shoot all the time. One even has a cannon. Lots of farmers around too. But all of us also have a lot of land and aren't right on top of each other. We've had zoning in this town for decades......and all is well.

IHeartMaine wonders:
"How close are your neighbors?"

About 200 yards. His other neighbor is nearly across the road. He shoots in his back yard too.

I shoot off my deck,,,i find it keeps the neighbors from complaining about bonfires, fireworks, and hanging wild game from trees....

I have wonderful neighbors!! one bakes me pies and I trade her venison,,, the other neighbor,,,,built on to his house and a new survey found he was building on my property,,,,, I said no problem,,,because hes been a good neighbor and we adjusted the property line,,,i didn't ask for anything,,,he did give me a gift card from home depot which was nice..

if he was a prick, for many years,,it would have been different ,,i had him by the short hairs..

NMLM answers:

"About 200 yards". That's a lot more room between neighbors than many people have. And I'm guessing that y'all have a lot of land shoot on so you are not on top of each other.

I have plenty of space to shoot, and technically I could, but I'm pretty someone would call the Bar Harbor Cops. I might end up in the "police beat" in the MDIslander.

IHeartMaine speculates:
"Or any other city."

Maybe not down in lower Maine.

We spent some nice time early Sept in two of our favorite small river towns, Gardiner and Richmond. Gardiner now has a natural foods coop on Main Street, clean and well stocked. Love sitting on the green next to the river in Richmond. Wiscasset—would never live there! So much traffic. I'm thinking to live inland from rte 1, if we ever do get to live in Maine.

All these posts are marvelous information for a list of little towns to visit.

( also as a note- our town is on Route One, and lots of other little towns as well. )
