I guess you could call us tourists! We live in Dallas and now that we are retired we look for places to escape to between late June and mid-October. Yesterday the temp was 95F. That is unseaonably warm but not too, too unusual. In general we can plan on hot weather thru mid-Oct.

In the early 1980's I had a job that took me to the Bar Harbor area of Maine arranging summer quarters for employees who managed a summer program for special needs kids. I'd lease about 10 homes; the majority of the staff lived on campus but certain management and specialists had provided housing. So I'd spend time there in late winter and then again a few trips thru mid-August.

I haven't been back to Maine since then but have always wanted to have the time to languish in the natural beauty of that State. I clearly remember crystal lakes and stunning sunsets.

We love to go on hikes and the snowmobile paths sound ideal. We don't fish or hunt. We would enjoy kayaking occasionally and also enjoy wandering aimlessly in town. We live in the heart of the city here, so a cabin or small house near a lake sounds like fun.

No... not on MDI. They leave when the leaves fall out of the trees finally, and when all the cruise ships are gone(November 1).

However, basically we love tourists. They help keep our taxes down.
