Don't they still have to jump through some hoops to purchase?

Default Backround checks apply.

Yes, you still must go through back round check and sign form 4473 at the gun store. That is a federal requirement.

"Don't they still have to jump through some hoops to purchase?"

No. There are no hoops. If you run into somebody at a gravel pit and compliment him on his nice gun and he invites you to buy it, you can buy it. It's the same with a crossbow, hammer or an axe. It is nobody's business what you buy or own.

The only hoops are federal. You can buy a full auto machine gun and fire it every week at your favorite gravel pit. No crime has ever been committed in Maine with one of these legal machine guns.

Of course.... you can't buy the only cheap ammunition available any where in Maine: 22 LR. Nobody knows why.

I have a bulk box of 550 rounds of Federal .22 ammunition. The price tag says, "Ace Hardware $14.95." It is a historical artifact. The box was bought in 2013. Federal and Ace Hardware both made nice profits on that box. That is 2.7 cents per round. Last year I saw a box of 500 rounds for sale for $100 at a gun show. Somebody bought it. That is 20 cents a round. That is a 740% inflation rate.

We no longer smelt lead in our country. We have three sources of lead, scrap, old car batteries and imported from foreign countries. The world knows of our blunder and we will see the financial effects for generations to come. Already we have people mining lead from old shooting ranges and melting it down to be cast into bullets.

16 YEARS AGO.... you could buy a box of 1000 for $9.95. It came to a penny a round. You could target shoot all day and never get close to using that many. Now.... while not in Maine, you can buy 1000 rounds for about $42.00.

Online its available for that. Why can't you find it in Maine---at any price? And if you can find it at $42, where would that be?

Ammunition sure has changed in prices. I used to buy Military Surplus .308 at 6cents a round. I ended up with about 6000 rounds before I stopped buying it. Was too cheap to let it go by.

I do not think it will truly make any difference in anything.

People who do illegal things, will continue to do illegal things.

People who are law abiding will continue to be law abiding.

I know people on both sides of this topic. I enjoy living in a state that is more pro-gun than Texas is, and has always been more pro-gun than Texas.
