We hosted a potluck Sunday afternoon. We supplied ribs and bbq pulled pork.

We still have a lot of meat left over from a 750 pound boar we butchered last Spring.

Wow, Sub, you let your porkers get seriously BIG!

We were advised that 250 to 300 lbs was a good size, if we wanted to process ourselves and not keep them for too much over a year.

But then I realized, you breed them, so you need older adults!

This boy had been our breeding boar. We sell piglets to lots of people who raise them up to only 200 - 250 for butchering. He was an adult who had became aggressive. Given more time he would have gotten bigger. A little tough but good flavor.

There is a very common myth that intact males will inedible. Many times people have told us, that all boar meat tastes bad will smells bad. We have seen that in reality there are other factors going into whether boar meat will be gamey.

A few years back I got a nice pork roast from a friend who raised them It had to be some of the best pork I ever ate. Ages a go I dated a guy who lived on a farm, not a working farm but they had beef and raised chickens. Nothing compares to the meat being raised on grain and no crap like hormone injections.
