Is this still legal in towns that have no trash service? Couldn't find anything current about it online, everything years ago said it was fine, pending no tax supported trash service in town.

Mine goes through my wood stove. If there's a lot, I have a barrel out back on the ledge. Not all towns look the other way.

There is a requirement to have a fire-permit for fires. I have seen warnings that fires are not allowed on 'no burn' days.

There is a forest ranger living in my town, from what I have seen, he wants people to use a container with a metal grate on top. But some of our neighbors want to rake up a big pile and burn it on the ground.

We save all of our waste-paper [mostly junk mail] and cardboard, all year-round. Then we use it through the heating season to start each fire in our wood stove.

That is what we do here for start up in our woodstove. Saving circulars, cardboard, and non-plastic window envelopes.

Here you have to get a burn permit which you can get from 3 of the Fire department heads. On some times last year, they denied the burn for brush until certain times due to dryness etc. You are also required to be at the burn site the whole time, and have a hose and rake if needed.
We burned brush one time last year.

Isnt that permit only required when snow isnt on the ground? No wood stove here, so eliminating the trash that way is out.

I guess it depends on the area.
Here a permit is required anytime for a burn. Easy enough to get as one of them is always home, but still- a permit is required.

I guess only if it's a "recreational fire" with snow on the ground.... no permit required.

You can have a fire for "cooking and warming" without a permit. Burning brush piles without a permit is illegal unless there is snow on the ground. Even then you are supposed to notify the fire warden because somebody may report that the Old Butler Place is on fire and you will get the bill for turning out all the fire trucks.

I know someone with an old woodstove and 4 foot metal chimney coming out the top........ outside. He burns many trash items in it. No town regulations against using a woodstove.

I've got an old Franklin insert sitting on my deck, works great and no problem with local authority's.
