I WISH I COULD. I have no choice since its what I have. Time Warner wants about $130 just to get me set up, which is 5 months of Fairpoint payments, and then wants to charge me an additional $6 a month after 6 months.

I wish I had called fairpoint annually about upgrading. For years we were stuck on 3/1 dsl. Really stinks for streaming HD video. I called the first 2 years, then stopped calling. This year finally called again and now we have 15/1 dsl and it cost 2/3rd the cost.

10 years before they get to my road they said.

Biggest problem for me is that once the population of MDI swells to 55,000, the equipment that they have for 11,000 becomes woefully inadequate, and their only solution is rolling dropouts to knock people off. And its not cost effective to increase connections for 55,000 when 3/4 of the year its only 11,000 people on the island. I'm not sure that under these conditions, TW will be any better.

Jupiter is satellite. Its not bad, its different. Its good for normal web browsing, ect, but terrible for things that require a fast response like video chat, voice chat, gaming, etc. And just like satellite tv, it can go out in bad snowstorms, or rainstorms.

There is another one that uses the same cell phone towers that your iPhone does. Does anyone have any experience with that?

I do not recall hearing of them before. A quick google shows that

'Jupiter' is 'Exede' and 'Exede' is DirectTV.

I have direct TV now. The fixed wireless is slower than un-fairpoint.

When you say 'wireless' I think of Wifi. Wifi from your modem/router should be far less bandwidth than connecting straight to dsl. Wifi from any source should be far less bandwidth.

The transmission method between your computer and the fiber optic is your biggest bottleneck.
