I was looking into a position as a cbp officer at the port of entry just north of Jackman. I noticed that Jackman is a very small and rather isolated community. Despite my best efforts, I could not find any houses for rent or any apartment complexes (excluding the low income govt funded one) in Jackman or the nearby surrounding area. The closest apartment complex I could find was a 100 miles away in Farmington. I'm curious to know where new cbp officers assigned to the area are staying.
Jackman has lots of weekly rentals mostly used by snowmobilers, fishermen and hunters depending on the time of year. They are too expensive for long term rentals. There are some older mobile homes that can be rented economically. I am on the opposite side of Maine near the New Brunswick border. I recommend you just Google homes in Jackman, Maine and connect with a broker that knows the area. On the hill just south of town there was a large motel that converted to time shares back when time shares were popular.
I recommend you call the town office in Jackman and ask the status of that building. Tough question. This will get you started.
Many just rent houses they find from word of mouth. Best bet would be to simply get there and stay wherever, gov housing, etc, then find a nicer place afterwards by asking around. When you live in rural areas like that, there are no apartment complexes simply because there are no people, no jobs.
you can look on maine craigslist, uncle henrys, call the town office,,
also check with a real estate company ....there may be houses that haven't sold,,,,but willing to rent .
if not they can usually tell you where to look
Best thing to do is call the port. They will know of places people have rented in the past and landlords who will rent to you without a one year lease, which is what you should look for. The locals like to rent to CBP officers because they know they will get the rent and the folks are good renters. Speak to the Port Director or one of the Sups at the port and I'm pretty sure they can hook you up.
