True.

Just to replace the heater would total the vehicle, ouch!

Now I drive the saab. Which is different in many ways from a Saab. A Saab might have a functional heater,

Well..........in that case I drive a volvo.....not a Volvo.

How can you have a car in Maine with no heat? My wife came with an old Volkswagon when I married her. That car had no heat in it what so ever! I even installed new ducting around the exhaust (there's some engineering for you capturing the heat from the exhaust for internal heat) and it still barely got warm enough to see out the windows. Finally it seized a cylinder on the highway one day and we junked it. A radio I could live without but not heat!

It is not so bad. If it ever got really cold here, then sure. But so far the temps have not gotten terribly cold here.

I just drive with hat, coat, and gloves on. No big deal.

Obviously I would prefer to have heat. Mostly for the windows and windshield. My breath ices up on the glass real quick some times.

I have a squirt bottle of de-icer and a squeegy handy. Just a squirt and an occasional swipe with the squeegy keeps the windows pretty well cleared up.
