H-2B Shortage Forces Local Hiring | The Daily Caller

Reducing the number of low wage foreign workers is forcing US businesses to pay more and offer better working conditions to recruit American workers.
Not to worry though, Angus King is racing thru legislation to allow more cheap foreign labor in.

Many of the jobs handled by foreign workers are menial labor jobs that local people do not want. Besides, Maine is currently at nearly full employment. Pretty much everyone who wants a job can get one unless you are one of those people pan-handling at Walmart. The current rate of unemployment is 3.0% in Maine.

Maine's unemployment falls to lowest rate in 40 years - Portland Press Herald
Yet according to the article, Maine businesses are finding ways of enticing Maine people to take these jobs thru higher pay and better scheduling.

In any case, why is it necessary to bring in foreign workers from oversea's when we have some areas of the country with very high unemployment, mostly in the rust belt area.
Maybe we need a program to hire summer workers from economically challenged areas of US and not fly them in from eastern Europe.
I would think this would be cheaper and would eliminate huge amounts of Gov. red tape and paper work.

When potato picking was done by hand, thousands upon thousands of field hands would come to The County from all over the country.....for 5 to 6 weeks. The government would facilitate this. They earned good money (native Americans were some of the best). There is no reason that such a thing could not be done again, for 2-3 months. Well, except for today's work ethic being much weaker.......and government welfare galore.......

I really don't understand why we need to fly in eastern Europeans , with all the required fee's and paper work when you could be recruiting inner city youths from places like Chicago, Detroit, etc.
