Hi, my husband is considering applying for a job transfer to auburn. We are in our late 30s and have 2 kids. We are looking for a lower cost of living from California and we want to be in driving distance to family in pa.
My husband works retail but our goal is to get out of retail, maybe into computer work and I need to get back to work and do something. My main concern is wondering if there are job opportunities.
I'm also curious how the winters in this area might compare to pa. Doing a little research I know it's colder.
Also, Can anyone tell me if schools are good?
Are there any areas that have alternative care or Drs?

Thank you for any thoughts you can give 💗💗

It really depends on your field. Maine is a great place to live. Maine is a hard place to make a living. But it really depends on what you do. IT industries and healthcare seem to be hiring at a pretty healthy rate no matter where you are in Maine. But competition is fairly fierce.

Colder and A LOT more snow on average. Average snowfall for Auburn each winter is 71 inches. Average snowfall for Wilkes-Barre, PA is 33 inches.

Not sure about Auburn. Lewiston schools don't have a terribly good reputation.

Not sure what you mean by alternative care, but yes, plenty of doctors in the area.

My husband is in retail but we want to get him in a different field such as IT but that hasn't happened because I haven't been working.

Oops that is a lot more snow than pa 😂. Do the roads stay pretty clear though?

look on the job websites......to see what employment is available

and go from there..

the good news is ....many retail companies are seeking employees and managers

For the most part, yes. If you go out right in the middle of a January nor'easter, you might take it slow. But roads are usually clear within a few hours of the storm ending.

The one exception to this I have found is Lisbon Falls, and I don't know why. The last time I was regularly commuting through there in the winter, it always took more four times longer to get through Lisbon Falls than the rest of the commute combined because the roads were so bad.

Did the Somalians immigrate to Auburn or Lewiston? Portland? Maybe it matters to you and maybe not.

They invaded both Lewiston and Auburn.

Emboldened xenophobes are bubbling to the surface throughout America. Thanks for that.

It's no wonder they're so angry. I'm sure it's exhausting being so afraid all the time.
