Hi Group,

I am a Life-long dedicated Wood-heat advocate, who has been cutting firewood for over 35+ years, here in CT.

In two weeks, I'll be relocating to Maine, and will need firewood (most probably 6+ Cord).

Looking through some local newspapers (Rumford Falls Times, Sun Journal) I see prices are $200 - $250/Cord.
I sell it here in CT for $180/Cord.
HOW can I locate free-standing or down, good wood which I can cut. split, move myself from anyones property, at no cost.
I just want wood.

It really "goes against my grain" to have to spend out so much money for what I have always enjoyed doing myself.

Would anyone have any good ideas how I could locate this seasons firewood?

I'll be living around the Rumford area.

Please, any ideas that you might have would really be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I am over 2 hours from Rumford, but if you do not mind the drive you are welcome to cut wood on my land. We are just a hair above Bangor, off exit 199.

Check the ads in the local papers. You can buy it tree length and cut and split it yourself. I used to cut my own, but I don't have the time for that anymore.

You might have to change it to MEwoodnut. Has an interesting sound to it. Why not call some arborists around that area and get them to drop off some logs or tree lengths?

Good luck on the move, hope it all works out.

Tree length is the way to go. It will be fresh and wet. Go to a nearby truck repair place and ask who delivers tree length firewood. The advantage of getting the wood now is that it won't be muddy.

Hi AustinB,

Now that sounds like a good idea!
How much would that cost?
Would that wood be seasoned and DRY?

Thanks Austin!

Tree length is fresh cut trees so the wood will be wet. You could consider buying this winter's wood already split and dry, and then buy next year's wood to cut and split yourself. It would be well seasoned by next winter. In a pinch, ash can be burned wet. It creates a lot of ash and won't supply the heat seasoned maple throws but it will keep you warm.

DH says tree length is around $120/cord over here.

Looks like dry, split wood stored undercover in Rumford for $200/cd. That seems reasonable. See Uncle Henry's. I haven't bought firewood since 1970 something. Enough oak, beech and ash on the back 40 to pick around and take care of things without wasting good sawlogs.
