If you ever need cardiac care, I hear great things about EMMC in Bangor.

There are organic farms in Maine if you don't like what the grocery stores offer. I also like the suggestion for you to plant your own veggies. http://www.mofgastore.org/product.sc...0&categoryId=1

I second the suggestion regarding a DeLorme atlas.... lots of great info.

There are thousands of lakes and ponds in Maine... pick one and get started. I realize you said you weren't interested in large lakes, but in case you're ever tempted to try Graham Lake, the expression throw caution to the wind comes to mind.

You can paddle the many coves and inlets on Penobscot Bay either in a kayak or an open canoe. Just have a tide chart and watch the weather. The river can flow faster than you can paddle on either the inbound tide, or outbound.
