We use our debit card there all the time...I guess I'm going to call the bank and have new debit cards issued, just in case.

Last year my check/card was cancelled by my bank while they issued me a new one because K-Mart had the same thing happen

Since we shop at Hannaford too...I guess I'll probably have to get another card again.

This whole credit card theft thing is way scary. Last year our own state government had their computers hacked into and bank information and routing information for employee paychecks was stolen. We were advised and did so to call a number that was connected to all 3 main credit information company's and have a watch advisory put on all of our cards and bank info.

T J Maxx got hacked last year and we had just used our debit card there the week before.

Our own bank, BB&T was hacked before that and we had to go through all the change info stuff.

I hate it when things like this happen.

And it's going to continue to happen. The only way to prevent it would be for companies/institutions to upgrade/re-program their electronic security on a weekly basis. Most can't afford to do that. Any database that is connected to the internet can be accessed.

Makes you wander (well if you are smart, at least [or paranoid]) about Real ID.

It's enough to make you wonder if it isn't better to carry cash, after all.
You might get held up for, or lose, what's in your pocket, but at least somebody can't steal a dollar from you and then use it to steal $1000 more!

Does anyone know, has Hannaford issued a statement yet? An apology would be nice, to start. Getting new cards is no fun....

Agreed, an apology would be nice, along with the time period ( exact dates) that are affected.

You would think a community company like Hannaford would be very transparent about this and have a full page apology ad immediately.

Having had my debit card infor stolen last year, may I make a suggestion? If you are going to the grocery store, buying gas, or even stopping at the donut place - just drop by the ATM machine and get enough cash to handle the purchases! Of course, you take the risk of being robbed BUT at least they won't get your card and then you're on the short end of the stick having to replace all of the cards!

This morning they're reporting over 4 million cards at risk between Hannaford and their sister company Sweetbay, in Florida. They say the breach has been contained and 1800 fraud cases reported so far. Yikes!
Better call your banks this morning everybody and cancel the cards. What a pain having to wait up to 10 days for a new card!

In our state, the government had a hard drive stolen with people's personal info including ss #'s. My DH got a letter saying his info was stolen. I don't know if he ever took advantage of the "free"(taxpayer funded) identity theft protection they offered.
