Sometimes when things get to be too much i try to meditate and think about peaceful things that will make me happy. For the longest time watching the Walton's has really let me recharge so i can get ready for the big move north in a couple of months. I have always looked up to the character of the father, simple, straight forward, honest , and knows how to live off the land. Lately watching it has become a sort of escape, often i imagine [the mountain] being in [the county] someplace. One of those little towns that nobody has ever heard of. Exploring for the first few months will be a long awaited sabbatical. Today finding a family that actually loves one another is a rare thing. I think i know maybe on an unconscious level that it is the place that holds my happiness When i go north i will take them all with me in the back of my mind so finally they can all live in maine, even if it's just inside my own head.

oh great, now i'll have the waltons opening theme in my head for the rest of the day...

the waltons was a staple growing up thursday night at 8pm

i remember many episodes, my fav was the ouija board one..

in some respects by todays standards, they were dirt poor,,but in many respects, they had what money could never buy, closeness, and support of family, a hard work ethic, respect for others, good morals, and appreciated the little they did have, didnt complain about what they didnt have.

what was the name of the sisters who had the still??

On the days I work from home, I usually take a breakfast break to watch the Waltons (about 8:00 or 9:00 on cable). It's just as enjoyable now as it was when it first aired. Maybe it's even better now, in greater appreciation of the simple pleasures of life....I especially like Grandma and Grandpa. Remember the actress who played Grandma continued to be in the series even after she really suffered a stroke and couldn't speak? What courage.

The Waltons was an iconic television show...just remember it's a television show ...not reality. Times and living were far more harsh back then than depicted in the TV show.
After you've taken the kerosene lantern and walked through snow drifts to sit in an ice cold outhouse and cleaned up with a dry corn cob for the millionth time I'd have to imagine the novelty of the back to nature thing would have worn off. Imagine sitting in front of a wood stove from December through April with little more to do than feed yourself ,your animals, and the fire. Anyone who has lived a modern life would go absolutely stir crazy after the first winter. Sure it's nice to think about the closeness of the family but they were close for a reason, they had nowhere else to go! Back then a trip to the grocery store was a bi- monthly event and cause for celebration. I challenge anyone to go off the grid, just a plain dial telephone and a radio, and live off the land for a few years with your whole family the way the Walton's are depicted and then tell us how much you love the Walton's lifestyle.
