With all the problems brought on by gas and oil prices, Maine roads in the worst condition they have been in in years, school consolidation causing friction among towns,Government spending out of control, and a myriad of REAL problems it's nice to know the Legislature and Governor can get together to pass EMERGENCY legislation to keep us all safe.

Passed in EMERGENCY session a bill to ban the sale of novelty lighters in Maine.
I know I'll sleep better at night! Why just last summer,according to the story, a Maine child was injured when playing with a lighter that resembled a toy baseball bat in a store! (Parents?). Are these people for real??? They actually spend time on crap like this?? This is an issue worthy of emergency legislation??? Is it any wonder why NOTHING gets done in this State?

I don't want to move and I really like the state overall but COME ON folks can you spend some time fixing the things that need fixing instead of jerking around with lighter bans? They made me just as mad about 15 years ago when they spent time on a law against the release of helium balloons for fear of choking sea turtles when they landed. They really need to get a direction here....unfortunately our useless Governor isn't much of a leader.

You are thinking that the issue of a state legislature that is completely bonkers, is a Maine only issue?
I would seriously disagree.
Professional career politicians are the problem, and they are in office in every state.
One of the things that makes Maine 'better' is that our taxes tend to be so much lower.
