I agree. I also agree Maine has low crime compared to the rest of the country. Any time the state is paying someone's way (supporting them financially), he/she is not working and paying taxes. Just because a person is out of jail while awaiting trial is no guarantee he/she is working and paying taxes. We would like to believe and hope they are working and paying taxes. Even though the summer tourist season is over, I still see lingering, reoccurring and new help wanted signs so there are jobs available. I was excited when I saw the article in the Bangor paper (in your original post, but before your post), then I thought I hope the decrease isn't a result of people who have been let off easy who actually should be in prison but are not.
