My mortgage, HIGH PROPERTY TAXES, homeowners insurance cost me 3k per month here on LI (That was with 90k down)
At retirement, I can sell my home here. Buy a house/condo cash in Maine. I’ll only have property taxes & homeowners insurance. Maybe $300-$700 per month +/-. Depending on my property taxes. Again, I can’t make the move until retirement.
Again, if I moved now, I would take a 20% locality pay cut. My wife would take about a 40% pay cut. That’s far more then my present monthly/annually mortgage payments.

I came to summer camp in the 1970s and liked it enough to stay.

It’s the Hamptons (but 10 times more beautiful) without the price or attitudes.

Maine is the most beautiful state in the Northeast, in my opinion. Underrated and truly gorgeous. I envy people who live in Maine. 4/10 favorite towns to visit (York, Ogonqit, Camden and Baha) are all in Maine.. alongside my favorite city in the country by far, Portland. My family got a vacation house in Maine back in the 1950s when they came to the country from the Azores. Too bad I never got to see it lol. But to get back on track, that's great a lot of Long Islanders appreciate Maine as much as we Mas*holes do lol.

But have you met a lot of fellow Long Islanders in Maine? Thats pretty neat!
