Put your plans off for a year, buying now in a frenzy is just going to leave you disappointed and paying too much.

We had planned on waiting. Sold our house and are renting now.

It has become a juggling act. How much do I lose on rent vs. how do I lose on an inflated home price. Either way, it's not a great feeling.

Lots of Maine properties still affordable. If location is not set in stone.

Until you find the “right” home. Without settling.

Glancing through realtor.com only for fun I found a great house in South Portland and the mortgage payment is what we pay for rent. that's kind of sad in a way. If we did move i think the biggest thing is going to be utilities. Because out here we don't really get winter. I think our gas bill is about $35 a month. That's on a plan where we pay the same every month. Our heat is gas and we have a gas stove. Everything else is electric.

I know it may vary by location but what are the utility companies in the Portland area? Can I find out what the rate is for electricity? I want to compare it to where we are.

Up to 1000 kWh: 6.329 ¢ per kWh

7.051 ¢ per kWh

This is the basic plan.

Of course you can. Here ya go.....see if this link works to some Central Maine Power residential rate charts. You're looking at double the electric rates. Not a shock.. it's the NE USA with traditionally higher rates.

If I can other people in my family to turn off the lights it will help !!! We use energy efficient lights and honestly our biggest culprit is our hot water heater. We live in a townhouse and the water heater is in the garage. One of several things that we dislike about where we live currently. Our gas heater works great, and we had to close the vent in our bedroom because it was too warm. But go downstairs and it very noticeably cooler.

I know heat rises.

Time for an update - May sales in Maine were up 28% over 2020, not a surprise as May sales were the first full month affected by COVID-19. The median sales price statewide reached $305,000, also up 28% from May 2020. In Cumberland County, the median sales price reached $433,750. The largest increase was in Sagadohoc County, up a whopping 43% to $360,000.
