Hello Everyone,

We are planning a trip to ME last week of May and stay 4 to 5 days. I went through couple of other sites along with some posts here. One plan is basically staying at Bangor and use it to take day trips to different must see.
Other possibly, stay close to Acadia for 2 days to start with and then pick another larger city further up north to visit some of those mountains, lakes etc.
Any tips, suggestions, from you locals? Also, any list that a first timer must see etc.

We have a 30 month old, so would like to restrict to mostly drives, popular destinations that are family friendly...

Thanks much!
-Prad

If you are looking for coastal towns at all, Eastport would be a great place.. maybe about 4 hours one way. There are several posters that may give you a guided tour.

Default Staying in Bangor will allow

you to do those day trips just fine and see alot.
You will want to head to Bar Harbor on RT 1A and on your return trip stop at the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound for some Maine Lobster and Steamers!
Fresh Maine Lobsters, Clams, Sea Scallops and Crabmeat | Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound 04605 While in Acadia be sure to
take that little one to Sand Beach Sand Beach - Acadia National Park Maine
to build a sand castle....after taking pictures in the Azalea Garden at Asticou.....beautiful background to get some pix of the family
Asticou Inn - Gardens (http://www.asticou.com/gardens.html - broken link)

Then on to the Oceanarium in Southwest Harbor
The Mount Desert Oceanarium, Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor

While in Bangor be sure to see Stephen King's residence on West Broadway...Paul Bunyan on Main Street....

Take a trip to Greenville area for the day....Be careful of Moose crossing the road and have your camera ready.....
Then take a day and go to the Rockland/Camden area.
You will have seen Maine as it is suppose to be.
Forgo the southern end of the state...too commercialized....you can see that anywhere!

Maine has so many things to offer.
Ocean views, hiking trails, and mountains. I'm not sure which way to send you. It's such a vast selection to experience. One thing you'll find in every "nook & cranny" are good people that will help you find those things you long to see.
I'm in love with my area. For the good simple things it has to offer.

Keep us up to date on the places you go. We love to hear how things have been while your traveling.

Can't help myself. The Moosehead Lake region is one of the most drop dead gorgeous areas in the lower 48. It's no wonder the granola crunchin' moon bats want it for themselves!
