I'll chime in with my photo/question. The attached is an unidentified flower that I took a picture of in Roque Bluffs State Park in Machias. It looks like an Iris...can any experts chime in?

Looks like an iris...I believe it is an iris! I'm no expert, but I'd say this photo is of a Blue Flag - Iris versicolor. It's difficult to tell from the photo if the leaves are sword-like or grass-like; if leaves are more slender, it's a smaller species, Iris prismatica Pursh. Think yours is most likely versicolor.

"Wild Iris" are common to Maine wetlands areas, flowering May-June. They are a great find. I look forward each spring to visiting a couple of areas where I know they are established. Thanks for the photo!

Yep, it's a wild iris. For years I've fought the temptation to try and transplant them to my garden. Obviousls I'd be doomed to failure since I've only seen them on freshwater shorelines or wet areas. Ahhh, I'll have to just enjoy them on my walks.

Strawberry blossoms are out along with mayflowers and bluets. Trout lillys and trillium are about done here. Lady slippers are next. I know where there are yellow, pink and white ones.

I saw my first lady slippers of the season yesterday. There were 2 pink and one white one. The white ones are a bit more rare. These were seen from the boardwalk of The Bog at the Bangor City Forest. I'm sure there were many more deeper into the woods.
