I am my grandfather's grandson And I never pass by a pile of interesting looking stuff on the side of the road without giving it a close and careful examination.

When I was married we lived in a little house with thirteen six over six windows - lots of light - three windows side by side in the living room. No storms or screens though. The house was on a high hill under tree canopy, and we didn't have a/c because of the shade and nice breezes with the windows open. One day I saw a pile of wood windows in front a house that was getting new vinyl ones. They looked like the size to fit our house. I asked about them and the home owner said take them. My nice '72 Volvo station wagon had a six foot long bed, and the windows went in. Some paint and putty repair, and we had storms and screens for every window.

Today's score was a yellow layer (pound) cake with chocolate butter cream icing and walnuts at St. Joseph's on Boynton st for 5 bucks. Try to make that cake for 5 dollars. Also 4 porch posts from the house where the old windmill was in the 1800's on Water st. I didn't see anything of interest when I was given a tour of the house, but as I was standing on the porch saying goodbyes and Thank yous I mentioned that the porch had been rebuilt, and the woman (daughter of the deceased owner) said yes, but the old posts were on an overhead rack in the carriage house. my heart went pitty-pat and after the exchange of certain funds, much more than her husband thought necessary and much less than they are worth to me, I am the owner of four ragged old 8' wonderfully turned porch posts. The cake, alas, will not see the morning sun..

At the same sale on Water Street where WillB found his porch posts, I found the perfect rug for my living room. The one I bought in WV for the dining room looks wonderful here and the one I found yesterday at the same sale for the same price as I paid for the first rug, is in wonderful condition. I also got a tour through the house, it's so packed up with "stuff" that it's going to take all summer just to go through it and haul it out for sale. The deceased persons daughter told me they would be having the yard sale every weekend through summer. She said she had no clue what all they had hidden away in the carraige house, the huge attic and all the upstairs maze of rooms.
