[quote=Fort Lauderdale mermaid;3855850]My closest friends down here are from S. Carolina. They serve grits often, I've had them a few times. I think it's an acquired taste. You look at it and think... cream of wheat... so you expect them to be sweet. They're not. They make the coarse ones too. I've thought that maybe with a little maple syrup or some brown sugar... I might be able to tolerate them. Not wanting to insult my lovely hosts, I've never asked for anything to add to them.

QW- do some people ever add anything to them besides butter and salt?[/quote

My sister lives in Georgia and the grits in Georgia are made with cheese...cheese grits for breakfast, dinner and supper and don't forget the catfish and hushpuppies.

When I moved to Jacksonville, FLorida...the hospital cafeteria served them for breakfast plain and cheese on the side. I saw people mixing their eggs in the grits...yuk.

I sometimes eat cheese grits with fish but normally make them only at the request of my son. I prefer rice or potatoes rather than grits.

Leftover Johnsville Brats (from yesterday's Memorial Day cookout), pasta salad (no mayo - balsamic vinegar with bacon, shredded carrots and peas)...and for dessert - the first trip to Toot's in North Yarmouth to get ice cream.

Tonight's menu was spaghetti with tomato basil meat sauce, and fiddleheads in a bowl with lots and lots of vinegar. My kids don't eat fiddleheads. They prefer sliced cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, drizzled with sun-dried tomato dressing. Dessert was rhubarb custard pie.

Yesterday we had lobster and fiddleheads (our youngest son doesn't like lobster, so he had some hotdogs)

I am detecting a fiddlehead trend here. Good thing we have some frozen for later

Tonight we had teriyaki chicken (DW made marinade - chicken was store bought $1.99 a pound on sale here, it's usually $2.99 or higher) green beans and rice. I saw the kids eating ice cream before they went to bed so I'll go looking in the fridge for that soon.

I have tried their cereals- not bad, esp the cinnamon harvest crunch that looks like frosted mini wheats though without the frosting and gelatin!

Never tried any of their microwaveable garbage....

Mer , are you being sarcastic

Tonight I had a cheeseburger from work with a Kashi bar and some fruit salad that the GF made along with some home brew.

For me it is breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, any meal between 10am and 11am or between 1pm and 3pm on a Monday through Friday is brunch. Lunch can only happen between noon and 1pm. Dinner always happens after 5pm. Any meal between 4pm and 5pm may be referred to as an early dinner or simply just a snack. Any meal eaten between 11am and 3pm on a Sunday is also a brunch. Brunch never happens on a Saturday.

Yes Moughie, there might have been just a tad of sarcasm there!
My work hours have changed to a little later, therefore preparing a meal for one at 8:30pm just isn't an option. I try to eat pretty healthy most of the time....the Kashi frozen dinner wasn't horrific, it just wasn't...real good.

I love that everyone in this thread posts that they still eat desert after dinner! That's so Maine! I remember as a kid, desert was always part of the evening meal. I'll just live vicariously through you guys!
