Tettering on the precipice of tolerance for PETA in general, and the continued lunacy of their rhetoric- I have "officially" been shoved off.

I'll wave to you all on my way down.

I'll be waiting to see the story about the KKK's retaliation against PETA.

Don't take offense to these guys, Asta. They're just outspoken. And sarcastic. Most of us, if not all, value nature as much as the environmentalists do. We just don't use it as an excuse to try and get attention. And we know, which the environmentalist don't, that if we want to keep the environment healthy that we have to manage it properly. Which is what things like hunting and fishing (also known as population control) are for. Done properly, they actually keep the environment healthy and prevent the extinction of species. Same goes for the things wildlife management agencies do. Controlled burns, for example, are necessary. They replace the naturally occuring burns that once contributed to the health of forests and other natural areas. It's not that we don't care about the environment. It's that we're better informed.

By the way, I was expecting this thread to be about strange but tasty things like crawfish and snails. We're having crawfish for supper.

Cas, I'm not sure if Mainers eat crawfish like we do here. We might invite them to a good 'ol crawfish boil sometime!

Lat time I had craw-pups was in Louisianna in the mid 70s. A guy from cajun country (can't remember the town) caught them, cooked them, and made his own sauce. Dang, they went down great with an Old Milwaukee. Loved to sit and eat them. IMHO, better than lobster.

Thank you for saying this. I obviously can't speak for all of us, but I will say my sarcasm comes from watching people who legitimately work toward a better environment, pay for those who choose to turn their cause into a circus sideshow like PETA tends to do. A good example of that recently: The bikini-clad women in front of KFC this winter. All that little "protest" did was bring an onslaught of sleazy comments in the BDN and elsewhere. They were for the most part a laughing stock of Maine. Offense was not intended. Mea culpa.
Rational people who are environmentalists understand what the Indian people always knew. You give and you take responsibly which in turn balances nature.
If you go to
YouTube - Hippies Wail For Dead Trees hopefully, it'll give you a sense of why I feel this way.
PETA's antics only serve to perpetuate the stereotypical "tree hugger" IMHO.
