2 Maine radio towers may continue broadcasting

2 Maine radio towers may continue broadcasting - Boston.com (http://www.boston.com/news/local/maine/articles/2009/02/12/2_maine_radio_towers_may_continue_broadcasting/?rss_id=Boston.com+--+Maine+news - broken link)

Quote:
An agreement has been reached that will enable residents of Washington and Aroostook counties to continue receiving radio transmissions from the Maine Public Broadcasting Network.

Apparently the state cut government spending to support PBN. So PBN decided to shut down their least profitable areas.

But has now changed their mind and decided to have corporation wide layoffs instead and to continue broadcasting in Aroostook and Washington counties.

I am glad that at least the state did not bail them out yet.

The story does not say what Sen. Raye said that caused the change of heart.

I hope it was not a promise of future government spending.

Not that I'd want to give an excuse for not funding Public Radio, it's useful to know that PBS news can be picked up on the computer. Maybe Maine Public Radio has the same availability?
