The wife and I are coming up in July with the intention of scoping out Eastport for a possible move and, if we like it (which from everything we've heard/read we should) we're going to start house hunting.

Now my dilema - I'd like to get to know people here but I've had trouble posting in some threads since we have never been there and if I post an off-topic thread it'll be moved to another forum (understandably). I've asked about every question we've had and tried to participate in threads but I'm having a wee bit of difficulty.

I doubt this is a dilema any one can really comment on - I know I just have to throw myself into things, but I really don't like posting without having something to contribute.

Dano, just jump right in! Everyone is welcome! I think you'll find the crew from Eastport to be very helpful and welcoming. Heck, the whole town posts right here, before you know it you'll have friends waiting for you when you get there.

Ask away...

I can understand what you're staying.

Try the OT thread...jump right in...it can be overwhelming just reading that thread...but there's so many "mini threads" in it that anything you talk about is ok. I can't keep up with it...so I tend to avoid it.

Also, try using the Direct Message button to chat with some of the folks you guys want to meet up with.

When I first joined the forum I asked a zillion questions (still do), people are more than willing to throw ideas around.

See? Just starting this thread you're getting involved...

I'm trying to participate, but I feel I have nothing to contribute to most threads. I think most of my pressing questions have been answered - directions, credit cards and earlier I asked about what to do with a 17-year-old and what the prospects of him being a paramedic there. Should I start a new thread for any other questions I have?

That's what I did. I had questions about blackflies, K1, roof rakes, goats etc...I started a new thread. Sometimes my questions were answered in two or three responses and there was no need for more...sometimes there were massive discussions about various things. I don't know what I would have done without this forum to help me through our first year here.

Ask away.

Thanks. Maybe I can post questions from my wife and son - of course my son is 17 and he'd have to say something to me beyond "grunt"

Suggestions? Try the 'search' forum feature for existing threads that might all ready hold the answers to your questions.

Also rather than the off topic thread, which you're right can be over whelming to jump right into - start a new thread if you can't find your answer by using the search feature.

Agreed, direct messages are a great way to contact people from the area you are interested in researching.

Good luck!

That sounds like a good idea - probably the biggest questions we have are about houses for sale.

My wife and I are pretty sure that'll we'll like Eastport but we're still not sure about our son, so we hope house hunting isn't gonna be an exercise in futility.

Ha, I do it all the time (this would be a great example!)
