At the Eastport 4th of July yesterday, the Canadian contingent was readily present. The parade was great with groups present from several towns in NB

Well my grand daughter loved the little rhyme for the 4th of July and learned it immediately.......

We went over to Smiling Hills Farm for ice cream after the bar b que....what a wonderful place with a duck pond and little horses and goats and beautiful pastures....great ice cream.....I was talking to the lady in the store.....she is a member of the family; that farm has been in the family since 1720....her husband is the 7th generation to farm it. They make their own cheeses and ice cream and blueberry milk (as well as chocolate); they have pic nic tables and the whole atmosphere is charming and was really special for my grand daughter! Laid back and no hype--quite a treat! (I like that the milk comes in glass bottles.)

elston, I'm sure the entire move to Maine was worth it, if only for that one special day with your grand-daughter!

This morning we had a deer step out of the woods and take a long look at our landscaping effort.....(some deer favorites among the shrubs and posies). We frequently see deer from our front porch in the nearby fields and crossing the street and the way my dog goes running into the woods some mornings....I know that they pass close to the house....but this morning she was standing there like a living statue. So beautiful and serene! She was a gift of the morning and made me appreciate waking up in Maine, all the more.

I don't particularly want them in the yard....I am afraid of the deer ticks and Lyme disease. I think they are aware that we have 2 dogs who have the run of the yard.....so I don't anticipate they will frequent our yard. I am glad to know they are near.

Thats great!

We have not been seeing the wild turkey, like we have the past two years.

But we do see deer.

My partner said that the dog chased up a flock of wild turkeys (including some younguns) last evening when they went for a walk after supper. He was surprised what good flyers they were. They didnt just fly up like a chicken to get away......they flew up and away!!!

If you're out before sunrise look high up into the trees and you might find the neighborhood turkeys roosting.

I remember reading a description of that in a novel....maybe about settlers in Kentucky.....I was surprised that the turkeys roosted in trees. I told DP that last night when he told me about the dog chasing the flock.....and how high they went.
