Yes, I love the bigger dogs, too. They just seem like better pets for kids, for the most part. Sorry to all you who love your little lap dogs! When my doggie jumps on my lap and slobbers all over me, I know I've been hugged and kissed! And they potty train themselves, too. Can't beat that!

I've always wanted a St. Bernard, but it's way too hot here for them. I'm sure when we have an adequate place there, we'll add one to our family and give Lady a sibling!

Well Brandi is from coastal NC... I brought her and Nox, a black mutt that was with us at the time, up for vacation in the fall and the first time we came out of the tent into the brisk early morning dew was the first time I saw her get frisky. I think the only thing she liked about the coast was when our evening walks took us to the creek and if she was on her long leash, she could wade out, belly deep. NOT a southern breed...

No offense taken! I've owned several large breeds over my many years. I've adored each and ever one of them. My two faves of all times were my two gorgeous and very majestic Akita's. My female "Tenshi" (Japanese for Angel) was 127 lbs, my male " Shin Yu" (Japanese for Best Friend) weighed in at 118. They both weighed more than I did, which made walking them both at the same time a little more than a chore.
Growing up we had a wonderful New Foundland. Big breeds are fabulous dogs. Slobber and all. I'd have another one in a heart beat, they just don't work well in a little 930sq ft condo!

No offense taken here either. I've had a couple of small dogs, but prefer medium to large ones. Just because its what I am used to.
Here's our new gal we got in August...has a very fitting name...Chile Verde (she came with the name.)

What a cutie!

I like larger breeds also (hey - I'm a large kinda guy!) and German Shepherds in particular!

Is there an easy way to find out through online reservations if a hotel is pet friendly?

Hi El I travel alot and although I don't bring my pets with me, I do stay at a lot of hotels, I see a lot of pets at two places I stay at quite often so try Best Western or Comfort Inn, and most fair grounds if you have horses.

Just google pet friendly hotels for whatever state you plan to stay in. We stayed at a Studio 6 out here as they are pet friendly. Be sure to check and see if they charge a pet fee and how much. Some places do and some don't, and rates can vary greatly.

Let's see - there's a pet friendly Super8 in Harrisburg, PA just off exit 66 on I-81 and a pet friendly Howard Johnson's at exit 67A (I think) in Vernon, CT on I-84.
