I'm working on bread and butter now. I'll make pickled beets, my favorite, next week. When we were going to farmers market my best seller out of jams, jellies and pickles was pickled beets. I could eat them with supper every night. My last pint jar is stashed in the back of the fridge. I'm the only one who likes them so I don't have to share -- I eat them right out of the jar.

I've never made dilly beans. They're on my list for next week. Are they as simple as other pickles?

Good! I hope to start picking beans Sunday, weather depending. If I can put up a bushel quickly I can be done with that and move on to raspberry, blueberry and blackberry jams and jellies. There are satisfying pops coming from my kitchen today. If you put up preserves you know what I'm talking about!

Sorry, no... my days of being a footloose and fancy-free gadabout are over (on Tues at least... I may have Thurs as days off... we will see) since I started working part time for Sunrise International. He needs me for 4-5 hours mid-day most days. His part time help is in Tues AM and all day Thurs, so I may eventually be MWF... but the man changes his mind more often than... hummm... than the weather in Maine? LOL so its anyone's guess at this point.

yeppers I do... I helped KAF pick a mess of beans this evening... I have peas and bolting lettuces. And we have a weed that we are waiting for it to bloom to identify, as the one in my end of the garden was COVERED with Japanese beetles, while the potatoes, just a little ways away showed some small evidence of having BEEN nibbled on, but no bugs now... then KAF found more of the same weed in her garlic bed, also covered. If they stay on there and leave the crops alone, we will encourage this wild visitor, I suspect...
