We live in Brunswick. The last time I read 'Salem's Lot, I paid close attention to the directions King gives in the book to where it is. As near as I can tell, it's sitting right next to Cumberland, which is just a short drive up the road from here.

There is a "Castle Rock" in Colorado, the King's lived there for a while. I believe he just used the name for a Maine locality.

On Steven King's web site, there is a map of his fictional Maine, actually a Maine map with his fictional towns added.

Cool! I googled it. Here it is: StephenKing.com: Miscellany (broken link)

'Salem's Lot isn't on the map though. I'm still convinced it's supposed to sit right next to Cumberland.

That's pretty cool - it doesn't have Shawshank on it either, though.

I can't remember where I heard this, but I've always understood that Stephen King always tries to have some of the shooting done for each movie in Maine.

Here is a link to some information about some movies shot in Maine. Since it's on the Internet, you know it's reliable.

Did any of you all watch the 1960's gothic soap opera "Dark Shadows"? It took place in the fictional coastal town of Collinsport, Maine about 50 miles southeast of Bangor. It was appointment TV for after school viewing for many in my generation. Actually filmed in Connecticut, Rhode Island and the ABC studios in New York City.
