Welcome beechtree. Sounds reasonable considering your plan and backhoe. I just love your area, North Berwick. I lived in Eliot for many years once. You're close to lots of stuff and the countryside is beautiful.

Anyone know if an old-fashioned outhouse is legal, say in a UT?

Sounds like a good way to take care of "the problem" before a septic system is installed...as well as after, if it ever fails!

Outhouses are legal, but you would still officially need a septic designer come and create a plan.

My understanding is that here in Maine you can at least do your own work. Other states require licensed installers but here as long as you follow the instructions on the site plan you can save a bundle, as it looks like FB did.

Yes.

A friend is building a home in Unity and just got his permit to put in an outhouse.

It is called a 'primitive septic design'.

Use liquid Purex soap. It's the only one designed to not hurt a septic system.

Gray water has to go through the septic system by law in Freeport.

The 'only' one? I doubt that.

My Dw makes laundry soap, so I know that our soap does not effect our septic system.

Also some of the 'concentrated' refills lack the additives.

Wow, I had never heard of that either.

On some of my other forums, running greywater straight out into the woods is very common in most states.
