Hey there! Can any of you tell me anything about this lake? Have you been there, what did you like, etc.... We're looking at places for the next Jeep/camping trip in July and we'll be going today for a drive up around there later today, but we would love some insight. We originally thought of the Grand Lake Stream area, but then spotted this on the Gazetteer. None of us have been in that area, but I see from the map that there are primitive sites there. ANY info would be great! Thanks

Been there a while back (not sure exactly when, but good guess would be 8 or 10 tears ago) and found it beautiful and a great canoing lake. Fished a bit and had some good luck according to my notes and saw a LOT of loons as well. I love Loons and their call so that does stick in the memory very well. Don't know how it might have changed in the ensuing years, but it was very, very nice when I was there. Good spot to get the Old Town wet you know .

Nicatous is one of Maine's premier smallmouth bass fishing lakes. It is scenic with many islands, some of which you can camp or picnic on. It is a treacherous lake for high speed boats due to numerous rocks. There is a deep hole at the south end where you might catch a good trout or salmon. Nicatous Lodge at the north end serves great meals and you ought to call ahead for a table. Best access is from Burlington on Route 188. You can get there from Grand Lake Stream, but you better have your DeLorme Atlas and a good GPS.

ohhhhh I'm glad you said that about GLS, that was how the drive was going to go later this afternoon! I'll rethink that--yes I have the DeLorme and the GPS, but would like to get home at a reasonable time tonight....maybe I'll add some more goodies in the picnic!

Thanks for the replies. It does look wonderful from what I found online. The kayaks won't be going tonight, but I'm hoping that wherever we end up for the trip we'll have a nice spot to put in.
