This is my first post!

I am a very green gardener, (pun intended) but there's almost nothing I like better than my 'dirt manicure', My just kids say I just like to 'play in the dirt' and I don't argue.

This spring, an odd plant started to grow and rather than just yank it up as a weed, we decided to let it grow. I am so glad we did!

Can anyone identify it?

Thanks!

OOPS, I am in Dexter, Maine if that helps!!!

A flower. Huh. I knew it looked familiar. It looks like a mini carnation. They do over winter well.

I like it It's pretty...and it looks carnationish to me too, but beyond that I can't help. I am interested in knowing the answer though, because I'm looking for perennials for the front garden here and I need to start thinking about the house in Eastport too. I like the height that it appears to have---it would be wonderful for disguising an unattractive foundation--oh, better yet, I'd like it near the front steps in Eastport!

Looks to be Sweet William. They will seed themselves in the fall. I have them all over my lawn.
