Hi, I'm looking for a SMALL house/cabin on an acre or 2 anywhere between Brunswick and Rockland with low property taxes. Is this a fantasy? Do I have to go further inland to find low property tax rates? Thx. Lugnuts

Define "low." What are you looking to pay for that cabin?

Here in Northport, a few towns north of Rockland on the coast, the taxes are pretty darned low.

Lugnuts-
You really need to check the mil rates of each township in the focus area.

How much they are each charging for taxes, is entirely dependant on each individual town.

Labamba-
Thank you, for you vote of confidence.

Maineah-
Thank you as well

Truly I am not familiar with the towns between Brunswick and Rockland, and their respective mil rates.

I am familiar with the differences between organized towns in Maine and the unorganized townships.

From what I have seen; one town in Maine will charge 0.001 mil rate, and another town will charge 0.02 mil rate. A huge difference in deed.

How about a guess for property taxes on a $80k place in Lincolnville? Or for a $125k place in Northport? What are the folks like up there? I want to be rural but I don't want "Children of the Corn" for neighbors. Thx,Lugnuts

Lincolnville's mil rate appears to be 0.00181.
So a $80k property would be taxed about $1448.

I am not finding Northport's website.

Well, we paid $375k for our house, and our tax last year was about $2600.
I can't find Northport's specific info on the web.

"Children of the Corn" --- lol, good one!

Maybe a quick call to the Northport town office? That's a cute little town too

Forest Bee,
You dropped a decimal pont, didn't you? Wouldn't it be $144.80? Lawmom's $2600 for a $375k house works out to about .007 so a $125k place in Northport should be $875?? Does that sound right??? Thx.Lugnuts

The tax rate is all over the board is what is being said. What holds true for one property in town isn't going to be the same in the next town or city. I paid $900+ a year for a property that was valued at $50,000 in the town I lived in. Next town over could be way less or more. Check with the town offices in city and towns you are interested in. A difference of a mile or two on similar priced and valued properties could be a huge savings in taxes if you look first.
