I was born/raised in MN but have moved all over the US as an adult because my husband is in the Navy..we are moving to Maine soon and was wondering if anyone from MN ever moved to Maine and what where the similarities and differences? I have never been to Maine but the area we are moving to (Brunswick) seems to have about the same weather temps, a little more snow in Maine it seems though.....

anyways....thanks for any replies!! We are really excited to move to Maine here soon...it's been 7 years since I have been in a "real" winter and a first for my kids....

Hi there,
My best friend in high school went to St.Olaf. He said the weather was very much the same and actually ended up moving to Minnesota after college. The snow is better there because we tend to get ice on top of everything living near the ocean but I think you will be quite happy with the move. Good luck.

I a originally from WI but have lived in St Louis Park and Outing, MN. Outing is up by Grand Rapids. Maine winters are quite comparable, except for the wind. The wind here comes off the ocean and cuts through every layer of clothing you have on. Back in MN I never felt wind like that. They might not get as much snow here as they do in MN, but when that wind kicks up and plants a 6 foot drift over your front door, have a shovel handy

Maine to WI and soon (please) back to Maine. Winters are very comparable. The wind in WI is far worse than in Maine..yes, that is possible From what I've been able to tell, MN gets a bit more snow than ME but I think you'll find the winters to be pretty comparable.

Are you sure about the wind? Miss M has lived right on the water in Maine.

As amazing as that is, yes the wind off of Lake Michigan is actually colder than the wind off the Atlantic. I never would've believed it either if I wasn't experiencing it.

I spent many a happy winter day at the coast, especially Pemaquid, during the winter. Oh yes, sooooo very cold. Don't know what it is about Lake MI, but it must have something to do with Canada and their need to share those arctic winds as they blow across. A November day in northeast WI can easily feel like a January day in Maine.

I worked in International Falls in the winter of '88 and boy did the wind blow.
Spent quite a bit of time in the Detroit Lake Region fishing. What a wonderful area.
I think you'll find our winds don't blow any harder here.

I agree about the wind whipping off the Great Lakes. I went to grad school in Chicago and froze my derriere off in winter on Lakeshore Drive. The wind is far colder and gustier than the Atlantic. Must have something to do with the wind formations in Canada. Any comment, CornerGuy1?
