My toes are a bit cold. First time since April!

I was talking to one of my neighbors today, commenting on how so many of the oaks were already losing their acorns. She told me that the old timers used to say that acorns falling this early are a sign of a cold winter ahead.

Yesss... it's comfortable. But with that storm that blew in.. it made it humid and rainy. Other wise, it's been perfect outdoor weather.

I saw that the leaves were changing when I was up on Route 6 today. It makes me happy and alittle sad too.

Yes...we got the same storm, I think Saturday night into Sunday morning. Horrific rain, actually heard it being blown against the window panes! The next morning, I had a lot of small tree branches to clear away before we could get out of the driveway. Temps were in the 70's that morning, as opposed to our usual 55-58 degrees in the morning.

MW - beautiful pumpkin! Beautiful picture! I'd rep you but need to spread it around first. Thanks for that great fall picture! It just says, "Fall!"

I took advantage of another sign of fall today -- LL Bean outlet store prices have fallen to reasonable levels again. We had been visiting there off and on when we were in the area and finding some good -- and sometimes excellent -- deals but about June we noticed the excellent deals disappeared and the good deals weren't....prices seemed to go up for the tourist market. I was wondering (hoping...) that they would fall again once the mass of visitors went home, and I guess that is the case. I got a couple more pair of silk longjohn bottoms (capri length... work better under my long skirts) for about half price (~$12 each).

Default Hate to say it.... but

I think it's time to resurrect this old thread! (Hi Nor'- come back!)

I was out fishing w/ my son ( near mbm's house) and we came upon a maple that had already started to turn. Someone told me that it's due to our lack of rain this summer. It seems so early to me, we've had the most delightful Maine summer weather this year, but alas... we're almost into Sept.

So here it is, I saw my first leaf turning on a lake... near Augusta...

Where did you see yours?

Thnk You Island Mermaid for reviving this seasonal almac.

I saw maples turning red in Buxton yesterday.....in Scarborough last Sunday.....today yellow leaves were fluttering down into my back yard (I think the falling leaves were drought related)... I am seeing lots of large acorns falling....which I think is a sign of a hard winter. We had bear out behind the house two nights ago--grunting like hogs....I don't know if that is a sign of fall or not.

The asters in my garden are budded and almost in bloom and the road side flowers are mostly goldenrod--replacing the queen ann's lace.....the hydrangea are turning bronze-pink.

I have pumpkins starting to turn orange. I figured it was heat and water stress as well, but maybe they know something I don't.
