I'm flying up to Maine next week to enjoy a vacation and see show the wife our possible new city (Calais); anyone know anything about Jonesport? Looks like it is off by itself, and I rented at a B and B there. Just wondering if you have any information, you all are always good with answers :-)
I wouldn't call Calais a city more like a small town. Jonesport is a small lobstering town. May have changed over the years but most people in town have the last name "Alley" or "Beal". Property used to be affordable until the early 90's as people buying coastal property started going farther north.

Jonesport is very pretty. It's still a working waterfront. I highly recomend going to Great Wass and taking a hike. It is beautiful.
diablogun, you'll be a little more than an hour from Calais while in Jonesport fxtrader is right, it would be best to start thinking of Calais as a town Both Eastport and Calais are cities by charter, but I think you'll be surprised when you see them! Do you have Google Earth? When we're getting ready to take a vacation or travel somewhere new, we use that to kind of get a sense of the area. It might help you to get a sense of where the towns are and how far from work they will be from you
Yes, I've already did all my planning for the trip via googleearth; I've also looked up at many of the properties for sale in the area on google as well. It's a great way to see what is in the area :-) I also found the B and Bs in Jonesport and Calais that I will stay at on google by checking their "places of interest" box.
I want to meet at the Seadog, but we have fishing trip scheduled for Saturday; I will see if I can make it, but don't want to promise something I can't deliver.
I even use googleearth to plan my trips in Europe; have you tried that? The benefits of modern technology are amazing :-)
I will post a very good description of Jonesport and Calais as I go through there; this is all very exciting to me, even if it is old news to you kind folks :-)
If you want to get together for lunch or a cup of coffee while you're in Calais let us know!
ditto
