Well then, he had more than 3.

Gotta love the Portland Irish! The ones that don't own the bars, own the taxis that drive you home after.

They celebrate St Patrick's Day for a month in there! I got a nice long sleeve Bushmills shirt last year. They were tossing them around everywhere and giving away free shots! We had fun!

For hiking trails, two places come to mind. Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands: in Freeport is lovely as is the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge in Wells.

Well, I survived Quiz Night at Ri Ra's Irish Pub across the street. It was packed and the beer was flowing. I had the Pub Burger with Cheddah and more than a few Allagash Whites.

Nasty day today here. Choppy water, rain, wind. Not a nice time to be walking (except to Gritty McDuff's tonight).

Wonder what I'll get at the bakery for breakfast...

I'll let you know!

Dennis

YEAH! Dennis survived!

We're glad you had a good night and can't wait to hear what's going on downtown on this rainy dismal morning!

Dennis, I've enjoyed reading your updates.

I'd like to throw in one last suggestion to you in terms of seaside inns. The Black Point Inn in Scarborough is very pretty ( The Black Point Inn 510 Black Point Road, Prouts Neck, Scarborough Maine ).

Also, There's a Ri-Ra in Atlantic City, NJ if you liked it (and you're not far from there). It's one of the only chains I enjoy, so I figured I'd share that with you ( Home - Ri Ra Irish Pub - The Real Flavour of Ireland ).
enjoy the rest of your stay!

Dennis,

You picked a nice place to stay in Portland. Check out the India Pale Ale at Gritty's.
It's real good. I had a couple of pints there last week.

I almost walked to Gritty McDuff's yesterday but it was raining so I walked across the street to Ri Ra. Maybe it'll be happening tonight.

I haven't been to Atlantic City in over 41 years (my 8th grade class trip) and probably will never go there. Just zero interest in the place. Now if they put a Ri Ra in the Northern Pocono Mountains in PA, I would be a happy camper, since we're going to move up there in retirement in a few years (if this economy ever gets moving).

As far as the sights out my window...

This morning was rainy, windy (20+ mph, gusts to 30) and cold (43 degrees) but the streets were still active with people coming and going. The water was quite rough with heavy swells and whitecaps.

Things have since settled down and more people are out there doing their thing.

I walked to the Standard Baking Co. for brunch and had their Asiago & cheddar pizza and an oatmeal raisin scone. Good stuff.
