I am sitting in my house, the TV is spilling out nonsense in the other room, my shawl is over my shoulders. I am fed and full. I had some success with the garden here over the summer. The dogs are snoozing contentedly at my feet and I'm sitting here undeniably homesick.
How can that be? I'm home but homesick.
My heart knows this isn't really home. Maine is home.
It's cold and rainy here tonight you aren't missing anything!
This was in the Sacramento Bee here the other day. "Let the rainy season begin. Rain: Water falling in drops condensed from vapor in the atmosphere. That, from the Merriam-Webster, is just in case you forgot."
What I would give for just a little rain. I stopped watering my lawn a few weeks ago and it is totally brown now. My neighbors probably think less of me now. A couple of my neighbors have perfectly green Kentucky Bluegrass which is edged and trimmed to perfection. I'm not worthy.
Alice, I've been homesick for 2 years now. It's hard to pinpoint that feeling but you just know when something isn't just right. Your heart aches for something familiar. I know what you are feeling. The only cure I'm aware of is a trip home every other month!
I understand that feeling so well! Dh frequently consoles me while I cry and vent about how much I NEED to go home to Maine! For me, it's an unexplainable connection, as I've never even lived there. I just knew the minute my feet hit that piece of earth that my soul belonged there. It's been a long journey to get home, but we're finally almost there. Once we're settled and living life in that special place, all these months and years of heartache and longing will be forgotten! Same for you, my friend!
I know exactly how you feel. It has been 4 years for us. Next week will be better as we are moving to Connecticut. We than plan on spending as many weekends at our camp in Maine as possible. I can work from home one day a week so I get three day weekends.
I still can't decide if this Maine forum helps or makes the home sickness worse. Either way I am addicted.
Alice - since I'm currently "wintering" in the same state you are in, I completely understand the yearning. Even though we already have our house in Maine and a set date to move, it's still darn hard to sit someplace else when you don't want to be there.
We are painting and fixing up our house here to sell, doing that helps bring us a little closer to our move, at least in our minds and last week we got new license plates for WV that also made us feel a little better.
Mine says EPORT ME and Mensaguy's says DOWNEAST - betcha most people in WV won't have a clue what either of them means.
